Middle

The book has(in my opinion) gotten a lot better. As stated before I thought it would be a book that would be very predictable and in some cases has but in general is very different. I find the relationship between Dana and Rufus very odd. She has saved his life so many times and because of this should be appreciated more than she has been. Yet Rufus continues to treat her like nothing more than a rag doll and has deceived her more than once. Although Rufus has gone through the trouble of recapturng Alice the feelings he has for Dana seem stronger than those for Alice. He sees Dana as a caretaker and personally I think loves her. He tries to deny the strong connection present by diverting his attention to Alice. The relationship among Dana and Alice is and can be seen as a sisterly bond, one consisting of intimate conversations and deeply held thoughts. I think Dana tries to help Alice because she sees that they're so alike all the way down to their appearances and sort of helps Alice almost as if she was her. Dana is torn between wanting to help Alice escape the brutality of Rufus but also knows that the only way for her to return home permanently is for them to have Hagar. She is torn between her morals as well as her wants.
